Argentina Customs Regulations

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

• Returning citizens will be required to provide a certificate of residence from country of origin.
• All citizens have to provide a valid passport showing that the person who presents the order for    goods, has been dwelling in another country for a period of not less than 12 months.
• Foreign Citizens have to provide a valid passport with resident visa with a minimum period of one    year, issued at the country of origin and a permanent entry visa stamped on the passport by    immigration authorities at the airport.
• Customers who import household goods with a temporary visa have to deposit a “Guarantee”    based on the value of goods.
• All documents must show customers name as it appears on their passport.
• A complete listing of merchandise or stock on hand.

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS:

• Customers should be present at the port when cargo arrives with the correct paperwork.
• Foreigners with a permanent stay and citizens getting back to Argentina who have been. living abroad for over one year can import used household goods and personal items duty – free.
• Foreigners without permanent residency may import used household goods and personal effects.
• Shipment has to arrive within 6 months after the customer or three months previous to.
• A special permit has to be obtained from the Director General of Customs in Argentina if customer does not arrive within the 6 months
• All items must be used and have been in possession of the shipper for at least one year. New items will be subjected to high duties and cause delays in customs clearance.

PROHIBITED ITEMS:

• New items (less than six months old) are subject to high duties.
• Gifts.
• Only one of each major appliance is allowed.
• Sports weapons allowed with proof of ownership.
• Alcohol, tobacco and food products (large amounts are subject to confiscation).
• Only two bottles per adult may be imported tax free.
• Heavy weapons, ammunitions and explosives.
• Firearms need special permit from the local authorities.
• Should be numbered separately on inventory and set near the container doors for easy access.
• Drugs and narcotics.
• Pornographic material.
• New computers.
• Color TVs and new TVs.

MOTOR VEHICLES:

• Diplomats are permitted to import used or new autos.
• Used cars can be imported by Argentinean returning citizens (abroad for at least two years) or immigrants with residence in Argentina.
• Importation of new cars is subject to Ministry of Commerce regulations and is limited to certain makes and models. Essential to check with customs authority.
• Cars for private use are subject to duty.
• One car per adult if over 21 years old, but two per family.
• Cars must have been registered in customers name and must have been purchased or transferred to customer a minimum of three months before the customer arrives in Argentina.
• Cars must not be sold for at least one year after clearance.
• Cars must be imported within six months of customers arrival.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

• Original Purchase Invoice.
• Title.
• Certificate of Residence.
• Original Passport.
• Original License.
• Certification from an Argentinian custom authority, establishing that customer has been living in the country of origin during the last 12 months. This is authoritatively ordered.
• 2 Original Bill of Ladings must be in Shippers name.
• Separate Ocean Bills of Lading are required – one for household goods and one for the auto (even if the household goods and auto are both in container).
